Since so many folks "google" Siddha Coffee , Chai and Sour Cereal I decided to devote
one whole page so you could find what you are looking for quick.
There was nothing like the flavors and the warmth of our Siddha breakfast after
early morning meditation and the chanting at Nityananda's Temple. When I lived in the Ashram it was the coldest winter
on record with 60 degree's below windchild factor some days. I was so afraid to go out in the cars for fear of freezing
to death. Let just say, it was a time to get over my fears!

BABA'S SIDDHA COFFEE
Serves 8
He put six cups of water over a high flame. When it boiled he added about
3/4 cup of sugar and a 1/3 to 1/2 cup of freshly ground coffee.
He let it boil for about a minute, then he turned down the heat and poured in
1 cup or so of milk. He poured the coffee back and forth between two saucepans three or four times to make it stronger.
He added a pinch of ground cardamom and nutmeg. Then he drained the coffee through a sieve that was lined with a coffee
filter.
MORNING CHAI
In boiling water, add the Tea Bags, turn the flame down, let the tea sit, covered
for about 10 to 15 minutes. Take the bags out. Add brown sugar sweeten to taste, pour in milk add ground cardamom,
cinnamon, and nutmeg. Keep on a warm heat and serve within 20minutes.
Sour Cereal
Water
Oats or oat flakes
Sea Salt
cumin seeds
methi
cayenne
chopped onions
powdered coconut
fresh ground coconut
Add the Oats to boiling salted water and let cook until very soft, smoothe and
thick, add the onions, let cook until they are clear. Then add the rest of the ingredients and simmer adding a little more
water so the mixture doesn't get too thick. It took us about 45 minutes to get that huge pot of Sour Cereal made in
the mornings before meditation was over and breakfast was served. Remember the dry toast too, that was from the fresh
baked bread that was left over.
From another Devotee
Hi Sister, Happy Holidays again! Chai is cardamom, cloves & cinnamon (I use
a good size stick) & double the amount of cardamom to cloves since we like the flavor of it better. Some use peppercorns
if use want the spiciness but we don't. We pressure cook the spices for about an hour to get the flavors good & strong
or you can simmer if you don't have one. Then we add the tea & steep for about 20 mins. Strain & add your milk &
sugar....yummmy. Siddha coffee we haven't made in a long time but here's the recipe we have: Bring cinnamon & cardamom
to boil in med. pot & simmer on low for 5 mins. In small pot heat milk till almost boiling & then add to spiced water
along with coffee then strain. Add sugar & nutmeg if desired. 1 cup water 1 cinnamon stick 4 cardamom pods 3/4
cup milk 2 cups strong coffee Sugar to taste Enjoy! Love & Peace, Denise.

The mind should be like a lotus leaf, which though in water, with its stem in the mud and flower
above, is yet untouched by both. Similarly, the mind should be kept untainted by the mud of desires and the water of distractions,
even though engaged in worldly activities. Nityananda
